We are
global innovators who establish Usability Relationship
Management (URM) tools that empower people to easily
access and use digital information. We develop integrated
solutions for the presentation, distribution and sale of
content. ION’s technology automatically enhances a user’s
ability to customize their experience of digital content,
regardless of their device, platform or physical challenge,
for maximum benefit.
Our solutions allow you to enhance the relationship with your
customer, extend your market reach to
a larger audience, and enable members to access and use
information. Digital content must be usable – to all
users, regardless of device or platform. Usability
Relationship Management is the fundamental principle
driving ION Systems and its technology solutions.
What is Section 508
– Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act is a complement to
the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), specifying
accessibility compliance for all federal Internet and Intranet
web sites and service kiosks. Section 508 is a mandate calling
for specific action to ensure equal access to digital
information (text, forms, graphics) for persons with
disabilities.
What is the Americans
with Disabilities Act (ADA)
– Enacted July 26, 1990, the Americans with Disabilities Act
prohibits discrimination and ensures equal opportunity for
persons with disabilities.
What is Digital
Rights Management
– Increased Internet broadband width brings with it the
capacity to obtain and exchange digital content (from text to
music to video clips) easily and quickly. Digital Rights
Management refers to the ability to protect that content from
unauthorized use once it is outside the control of the
publisher or distributor. Additionally, tracking usage
information has become an important part of the content
distribution process – a factor taken into account in the
DRM security architecture. To protect the copyright assets of
publishers and authors, GalaxyLibrary™ provides the publisher
with choices for DRM - from PDF Merchant and Microsoft Reader
to MobiPocket. The highest level of security is provided
through the use of IBM's Electronic Media Management System (EMMS)
as a security architecture behind GalaxyLibrary™. ION Systems
is an IBM Business Partner.
What is Accessibility
– GalaxyLibrary™ readership is not limited to traditional
sighted readers. We developed software solutions that ensure
universal access to all digital content. For low-vision
readers, our reader interface technology allows the user to
increase text size up to 144 points, and menu items up to 96
points, as well as making forms and graphics viewable. For
dyslexic and scotopically-sensitive readers, our technology
allows the user to change the color or contrast of background
settings – thus making printed material readable. For blind
readers, we partnered with Duxbury Systems, Inc., the world
leader in Braille translation, transcription and production
software, to provide a state-of-the-art Braille reading
experience.
What it Distribution
– GalaxyLibrary™ is an end-to-end electronic content
publishing and distribution service. Secure eContent
distribution is achieved by streaming directly from the
GalaxyLibrary™ server, or in conjunction with a Digital Rights
Management system that allows downloading to the desktop.
